Pilgrims

The road might be many things, but never boring. One day for instance, we were treated with an at distance odd-looking procession followed by a police car. Upon closer study, it became clear that this was a group of pilgrims, who were in the process of sanctifying their new icon, or alternatively celebrating the patron saint of their parish.

We were cordially invited to join them, but as our road took us in the opposite direction we were forced to decline the offer.

A small side note: I must say I felt slightly sorry for the driver of the police car. It cannot be that rewarding to follow a procession such as this marching at a slow pace for something up to fifty kilometers. But that might just be me. This police man could indeed be living a very rich internal life, making the job all the more pleasurable for him. At least I hope so.
